The CIU888 is the latest generation Communication Interface Unit from Honeywell, designed to interface tank gauging systems to host computers and provide accurate inventory data in real time. It is suitable for use in refineries, terminals, depots, and chemical plants.
Network and Connectivity
- The CIU888 supports five Ethernet ports, each isolated by firewalls to separate inventory, office, and other networks. It includes front-panel access for local service and diagnostics, and offers up to six serial Modbus ports (2 native, 4 optional)
- Supported protocols include Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA TCP, and emulation of legacy CIU858/880 protocols
Performance and Scalability
The CIU888 can scan and calculate data for up to 80 tanks in real time. It supports API MPMS Chapter 11 & 12, ASTM D1250, and GPA TP-27 for temperature and density corrections. Measurements include level, temperature, vapor pressure, density, volume (GSV, NSV, GOV, TOV), and mass.
Industrial Design
Rugged design with industrial painted steel enclosure. Passive cooling by heat pipes – no moving parts. IP30 protection, operating temperature range 0 to 60°C. No fan or hard disk, ensuring high reliability and long life.
Security & Maintenance
The CIU888 includes a Layered Cyber Security Model (LCSM) and access controls. Configuration is password-protected and diagnostic tools are integrated for ease of maintenance.
